Is Jaws a Horror Movie Essay - 1524 Words

Is Jaws a Horror Movie? First, I will intend to take you on a brief journey through the horror genre and the conventions that have been associated. Second I will show you how these conventions are used in the film Jaws. Let’s take a closer look at the history of the horror genre. To get started we are going to start with the first era or as it’s called the silent era. This era was based on monsters such as Frankenstein (1910), Dracula (1912) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923). The horror was all about the make up and the clever use of lighting, to add thrills. The first conventions were that we see are the ‘revealing of the monsters’ and the use of ‘isolated houses’ where the monsters are based. This left audiences feeling†¦show more content†¦Towards the end of the era we see excessive blood and gore, victims, violence and sadism and finally torture, Saw (2004) and Hostel (2002). As I have already mentioned Jaws is an important movie because it was the first real blockbuster, grossing $450 million. A common discussion is whether Jaws is a horror or thriller, I am going to analyse the two scenes to help us decide. The film starts under water with a shark’s point of view of the ocean. Only the audience don’t know it’s a shark, the music is un nerving underneath the water of the unknown. Then we switch to a calm atmosphere on the beach with students gathered round the fire drinking, smoking and having laughs, this is to show it is warm, safe and chilled out. We then reach the edge of the fireside warm, and then introduced to the victims, the teenagers; this is a modern convention as they are humans not monsters. There is element on the beach to show the beach is safe and protected. Spielberg, the director introduces the first two characters, Tom Cassidy and Chrissie Watkins. The director uses a close up of them looking at eachother, tom is facing the opposite side to the fire and Chrissie is sat in the distance from the rest of the group on the outsider of the fire, there is also a fence on the outside to show that past there isn’t safe. There then is a long tracking shot as the couple are going for a swim in the dark. Chrissie then dives in to theShow MoreRelatedExploration Of Exploitation During The 1970 s Generation1417 Words   |  6 Pagesuncertain time for the film Industry. Statement of the Problem Since 1970 the Mountain State Agricultural College witnessed the upsurge in student enrollment, faculty and administrative personnel, research projects, degree programs and college functions. As a result of complexity of management, academic research and research operations have developed. The study aimed to develop a computer application on its information system and the data processing system to streamline such complexity. The problem areas are as follows: 1. The analysis of the present system 2. The design of the proposed system 3. Selection of the proposed computer system its cost study and the computer department organization. Methology The research is adopted to a descriptive method. This employs the systems analyses method oriented towards computer approach like wise with the utilization of questionnaire on the survey of the information flow within the organization. FINDINGS The Present System In the survey and systems investigation of the present system reviewing the existing procedures and information flow, emphasis is made on the documents and information flow used in management, academic and research operations. All documents are to be investigated according to the origin, distribution, materials and format. The present organization of the institution is divided into three groups namely: ) Management Group a) Personnel and Records Division] b) Finance Division c) Property, Housing and Auxiliary Services Division 2) Academic Group a) Admission Office b) Student Affairs c) Graduate and Undergraduate Office d) All College Division 3) Research and Development Organization a) Physical Plan Division b) Research and Experimental Station c) Philippine Training Center d) Northern Philippines Root Crop Research The problems of the present system are mainly due to the manual nature of the data processing and are materialized as follows: 1. Accuracy of Academic Data 2.Student Records and File Maintenance 3. Personnel Records and File Maintenance 4. Payroll, Accounting and Finance Files 5. Research Statistical Analysis and Evaluation of the Experimental Data 6. Manual Grade Processing Enrollment Future Requirements and Constraints Based on a five-year projection plan, the student and the faculty-administrative personnel population will increase as follows: Number of Enrolled Students as of 1984- 4,817 Number of Faculty as of 1984- 608 The increase of the administrative personnel would be proportional to the increase of faculty staff. The increase of student and personnel would relatively increase the following: 1. Administrative Workloads 2. Research Projects 3. Enrollment Requirements 4. Data Processing Requirements 5. Academic and other Physical Facilities Proposed Computerized Information System The proposed information system would use the individual file data base method and is centralized and managed by the EDP department. This total information system would handle the following files: A. Management 1. Payroll, Accounting and Financial 2. Inventory 3.Personnel B. Academic 1. General Student Data 2. Grade Report 3. Student Accounts C. Research and Development 1. Statistical Evaluation of Data 2. Project Management The total information system with the proper computer hardware can replace a number of independent existing files in the college, which is being managed by the different departments. System Requirements Since the proposed system is used as a management, academic and research information system it requires the proper computer hardware and its peripherals. The memory size of the computer as recommended by three-computer system dealers ranges from 40 Kbytes to 64 Kbytes. This is classified as minicomputer. Computer Systems Proposal and Configurations The proposed hardware capacity as recommended by three-computer dealers in the Philippines as selected by the writer is the following: Dealer Memory Size Hardware IBM Philippines Dataprep MAI Philippines 48 Kbytes 64 Kbytes 40 Kbytes Systems 34 NOVA 3/12 BASIC FOUR The selection was based on the cost of the computer hardware, the software capabilities and the hardware components. The writer selected NOVA 3/12 for the following reasons: 1. The cost of the system is low. 2. The operating system suits the proposed information system relative to real time processing. 3. The wide variety of computer languages utilized for the research, academic and management processing. The initial systems configuration for the NOVA 3/12 has a higher core capacity and also the expansion capacity is excellent. These items are very important in the selection process since the prime concern of the user is a system that meets the odds of obsolescence. The Cost Study The various cost of implementing a computer system is important in the feasibility study of acquiring a computer. The summarized form of the cost involved are the following: 1. cost of the computer system 2. cost of the computer housing 3. cost of the computer conversion 4. cost of computer operations a. cost of operating personnel b. cost of supplies c. cost of supporting facilities d. cost of utilities e. maintenance cost Proposed EDF Organization The proposed computer department should be a separate service oriented department. This group could be group within the management group since it is service oriented. The idea is to create a separate and identifiable computer in the college so that the users can view the EDP as an organizational resource. This would be composed of the EDP head, systems analyst, programmers, operators and data control clerks. CONCLUSIONS The following conclusions arising from this study shows the feasibility of the proposed computerized data processing and information system. 1.Since the present system at its manual nature of operation leads to high turn around time of the information and data processing, the introduction of a computer and a computerized processing would shorten the turn around time for the reports, files, and the information would be up-to-date and also accurate. 2. The growing rate of the student population, personnel and the faculty has a direct effect on the present information and the data processing system would remedy the adverse effects of the present system. 3. A computerized anagement information system would enable the administrative decisions since up-to-date informations, reports and other data could be produced at a fast and accurate mode. Detailed study of the future requirements using the computer from the current data can be done. 4. A computerized data processing would benefit the academic staff, faculty and students in the enrollment processing, grade processing and the in formation flow. 5. A computerized data processing would speed up the development of research projects and give more way to research projects. 6.The required size of the computer hardware would be between the 40 Kbytes of core memory capacity size of the CPU. 7. The EDP department is a separate department to serve all the other departments; since it is a service group, it should be under the management group. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Since the study covers a preliminary survey and is a feasibility study, it is recommended to the Mountain State Agricultural College that the detailed specification and implementation of the system would ensue as soon as the college approved the acquisition of the computer system. The implementation concerns the following: a) file design b) programming requirements c) program testing d) documentation e) training personnel f) conversion g) installation 2. It is also recommended that if the college agrees to push through with the acquisition of the computer system, a computer committee should be organized to compose a group of top management and one computer specialist. 3. Since the proposed computer installation is a minicomputer installation, the individual file database is recommended for the information system. This is to minimize programming cost. . The economical size of the probable computer system as recommended for the information system by the computer dealers of the Philippines ranges from 40 K to 64 K. It is further recommended that the NOVA 3/12 is the most probable computer to be recommended. 5. Since the EDP group is considered as service bureau, all the departments in the Mountain State Agricultural College are to be served by this office. A cooperative effort by these departments and the EDP department would contribute to the effective workability of the proposed system. How to cite Thesis Abstract, Papers

However, the company can bring about innovation in its products and offer wider variety to the customers. Efficiently allocating the resources are required to reduce the price of the product further down. Changing market environment With the change in the technology and the perception of the customers, the environment of the market has changed up to a great extent. The change can be viewed from two dimension namely micro and macro environment. Microenvironment: Ronald McDonald house observed a notable change in the microenvironment of the market such as its customers, producers, intermediaries, and the department within the organisation. Changes have occurred in the consumer behaviour that indicates a requirement for changes in the strategies of the company (Kotler et al., 2015). Macro environment: The macro environment of Ronald McDonald house relates to the factors such as the political factors, economic factors, social and the technological factors. The PEST analyse is an effective tool that helps the managers of the company to analyse the changes occurring in the macro environment of the market. With the changes in the government, the political rules and regulations of the nation are also changed to some extent. High tax rate reduces the sales as consumers avoid paying high price for the same products and services (Lusch Vargo, 2014) The economic changes such as inflation, recession, changes in the interest rate accounts to the changes in the macro-environment of the market. Ronald McDonald house needs to adjust itself as per these changing factors of the economy. With the increase in the customers consciousness about health and the increased medical technologies, there is the reduction in the number of patients suffering from the illness (Huang Sarigll, 2014). The advertising standard is another factor that adds to the changes in the market environment of Ronald McDonald house. The company needs to train its employees more to increase the productivity of the labour. The efficient employees provide better customer service that transforms the potential customers into loyal customers. Important marketing objectives of Ronald McDonald Ronald McDonald house focuses on three main objectives that help the company to achieve the overall goal of the organisation, which are: Reduce the price level of the products Increase the number of customers of the company Promote societal welfare. Ronald McDonald house practices demand based pricing strategy but ignores the cost-based and the competitor based pricing that needs to be focused on. The well developed set of goals help the brand not only to maximise revenue generation but also works towards benefitting the community. Marketing mix Strategies Ronald McDonald house uses the demand-based pricing strategy to set the price level, however, more effective strategies are required for the company to increase the profit margin and earn higher market shares. The concept of big-box stores or accommodation helps Ronald McDonald to achieve better access to more customers (Pavlou Stewart, 2015). Branding strategy of Ronald McDonald house includes effective promotion through graphics, slogans via online and social media. The company allows discounts and offers on the products that attract more customers towards the company (Hartley Claycomb, 2013). It is recommendable for Ronald McDonald house to carry out a test or survey to the customers before introducing a new marketing strategy in the market of Townsville. Recommendation Analysing the current marketing management conditions of Ronald McDonald House the following are suggested not only to improve profitability but also focus on societal welfare: Managers need to expand business by building up new houses and more facilities in Townsville A focus on the pricing strategy is also needed to attract customers and maintain reputation RMH needs to emphasize efficiency of the workforce by organising schemes and programs that benefit them Conclusion The marketing nature of Ronald McDonald house, Townsville infers that the company has effective marketing strategy that offers the company a valuable position in the market. However, the company needs to adopt further strategies that will help the company to maintain a sustainable position in the market to continue the business with high profits in the future. The SWOT and the PEST analysis helps Ronald McDonald house to analyse the changes in the micro and macro environment of the market in which it operates. The recommended strategies such as implementing cost-based pricing strategies and competitor-based strategy helps the company to reach its goals. Moreover, technologies and innovation will help the company to grow and develop further in future. References Barrett, H., Weinstein, A. (2015). Subculture Essay Example

Subculture Essay To start the article, it is necessary to learn thoroughly the meaning of the word culture. From where did this word come? Basically, ‘Culture’ is a word, which means civilization, and where there is a civilization, there is a group of people living together in the form of communities belonging to different castes. Culture is a word derived from the Latin word cultura, which means to cultivate. Cultivation here can be taken in different meanings. However, this does not only mean the cultivation of fertile lands but the real in depth meaning to this meaning is to cultivate a society by forming unity among the people. When we talk about culture, many things are produced from its formation. Not only from this word but the system also rises in the human body that cells make up tissues, tissues make up muscles. The same system is with every innovation of human being. Same as that whenever we talk about culture, after defining it the second thing that comes in the mind is society. Society finds its way from the creation of culture, its norms or mores and traditions. But here the question arises that what do we need to create a better society? Only culture? If only culture, then what is so efficient fact in culture that it is a key to create a society? The answer is very simple.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  To create a society it is necessary to create traditions and mores. When we create our traditions and mores, we name it culture. Through the creation of traditions and mores culture come into existence however people believe in their so called man made beliefs and this leads towards the creation of a society. Before society it is a necessary step to discuss some detail about mores and traditions. Tradition too is a Latin word known as traditio. The help of Latin words produc es most of the words of the English language. According to most common definitions of tradition, it is a man made word meaning of beliefs which are created by man. Man made his own limitations, gods, goddesses, religions and traditions. Some restrict themselves in the limitations of their cultures or traditions however many of them use their policy of ignorance towards these beliefs. Besides creating all these laws and traditions, one more thing that arises for the betterment of people are mores. To establish a society it is necessary to produce new and advanced mores in which there should be a strict law and order and society should be based on the basis of facts, not on those beliefs, which are created by the human beings themselves. Mores can build a society and mores can also play an important role in the destruction of the society. It has been learned that nothing is perfect in this world. Everything has negative and positive aspects., but it depends on our mentality that what we want to do because it is like an example that positive side of a magnet always attract the negative side and the negative one attracts the positive side. It has been proved that people find their ways towards the mores of their own will. When they think enjoying their negative activities, then they have no space for the betterment of the state, country o city in which they reside. However, the main point here is that who is the main culprit behind the creation of such negative aspects in the society? May be it is the society itself who blame their own people when they are doing something wrong. It has been well said, â€Å"Society prepares the crime, and the criminal commits it†. In this phrase some faults of the society have been highlighted as well as the faults of the people also have been highlighted who are so weak by mind in an innovative era that they are making no use of their minds. All of the above statements clarify that it is the society who’s negative and positive affects lead the minds of the people towards destruction. We see many flaws in our society when we observe it closely. Nowadays, with the informat ion boom all blame for corrupting young minds lies heavily on the shoulders of the media. This isn’t so; people don’t get corrupt surfing the net or watching television. These media offer a wide variety of options, so why is it that our youth forgoes the positive aspects of the media and tends to go absorb the negative effects? I feel that our youth is intelligent enough to understand what is good and what is harmful for them. Education, shelter, health, freedom of expression, security of people, democratic norms, and justice are the basis of every civilized society. But unfortunately what we find in our society are lies, illiteracy, poverty and injustice. These negative aspects of society that most people experience force them on to the path of corruption and thus being frustrated by their circumstances they are attracted towards different vices. If we want to develop our nation it is important that our youth are educated and have ample opportunities to channelize their energies in a positive direction. Parents should encourage their child’s creativity and must provide them with opportunities to exercise their individuality in a free environment. This will help children grow into healthy, intelligent beings who understand that they have a right to their ideas but they cannot impose their ideas on someone else. This will breed an atmosphere of tolerance and will provide the country with stability. Besides this, more facilities for sports and recreation must be provided so that the youth don’t waste their time in front of the Internet or television. We must also provide them with jobs so that they become financially stable and must follow merit while doing so, so that the right people get the right jobs. This will give way to more opportunities and clear the way for a better economy, which will give us a better way of life. Men are so inclined to content themselves with what is commonest; the spirit and the senses so easily grow dead to the impressions of the beautiful and perfect, that every one should study, by all methods, to nourish in his mind the faculty of feeling these things. For this reason, one ought every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words. (â€Å"Learning Commons†) We must also encourage our youth to hold on to their traditions and values. We must move ahead but we must never forget our basis and who we are. Here the parents must tell the children about their traditions and must make sure that even though they move ahead on to the path of innovation they do not forget their culture and identity. In this article I have defined culture, mores traditions and ethical values but not a specific country and its culture. Here, I have taken the UK as a country. The United Kingdom is a part of Europe. But here to know the subculture of the UK, it is necessary to understand what subculture is. Culture is a civilized society of people based on man made mores, ethics traditions and customs. Then what subculture is? How it is created and what are the factors behind its creation? Subculture can be simply defined as different small cultures of different lobbies created in a single culture made by the people. Every lobby is a subculture made by the supporters of the required criteria. However according to web definitions sub culture can be defined as â€Å"A social group with shared characteristics that distinguish it in some way from the larger cultural group or society in which it is embedded. Generally, a subculture is distinguished either by a unifying set of ideas and/or practices (such as the corporate culture or the drug culture) or by some demographic characteristic (such as the adolescent culture or the culture of poverty)†. (Human Diversity in Education) Subculture now has been thoroughly defined but I would clear the European subculture. Subcultures are made from cultures and every subculture has an effect on itself of its own culture. In almost all Western countries even Europe the culture is same. Drinking, nightlife and pre-marital relationships are common in these sorts of countries. Here the people who form their own subcultures take almost every aspect that they think would be helpful in creating their own subcultures. Subcultures have their own classes and kinds. The teenagers create youth subcultures and they are the people who form different subcultures from their traditional culture. Every people in the European society create its own subculture like gays. Gays are considered as a shameful part of the society. So when they feel degraded among other normal people of their society, they thought to gather some of the people of their gay community and created their own gay subculture. In all of this many people like this who feel neglected or the ones who feel that they are given more importance in the society make their groups of the specific name or kind of which they are creating their subcultures. In these subcultures, they are restricted to promote their subcultures and follow all the rules and should abide by the followers of the subculture. Now let us discuss the factors of European sub cultures Drinking, Nightlife, Pubs, Discos, Clubs and other heinous activities such as drugs, smuggling and murdering are a part of European culture. This has been a conflicting situation for the philosophers who study the sub cultures of their nations. In Europe the activities, which are considered vulgar in the third world countries, are the culture of western countries. People of western countries think these actions as a part of their culture but in third world countries, these activities are termed as offensive or improper. The people and youth of the western countries recognize the thinking of these under developed countries as backward but many of them think in an entirely different way. The European countries have become so advanced in the world that in all aspects they do not bear anybody’s comments on the way of their dressing. In contrast, people who live in the Asian Countries don’t like their living style only because of their own culture. They say that people who wear body-revealing clothes and think it as a fashion are wrong because in the Stone Age people did not know how to cover their bodies. They comment that why are we called advanced? What is the reason behind this advancement, which is only leading towards the Stone Age and is so backward that we cannot differentiate between right and wrong? In Europe, teenage drinking is highly neglected by the parents. Teenagers are very bad there. This term or this sentence is very easy to say but no one is ready to understand the factors behind the destruction of these small teenaged kids. All of us know the importance of parents in our life. Parents can create their children on the path of creativity and talent while most of them can destruct their children in a very bad manner. Howsoever, none of the parents want to destruct their children but in the love of money making and their social gatherings they pay no heed to their children and when they get through these destructive subcultures, they are always present to gift a slap to them instead of instructions. This attitude of parents towards their children is not at all neglecting one and they should be punished for not giving correct guidance to their children and when they are fully destructed they go to solve their problems by the means of slaps. Has anybody ever recognized or observed that why teenagers build up their minds towards these subcultures? No, because nobody in this world has the time to guide another person. People who guide the teenagers are so rude that they do not understand instructions and act mi sbehaving. This is not entirely the fault of the youth but the elders who are not there when we are in the nned of strong guidance can only regret this error. Conclusion At last, I would conclude that the rising subcultures in the European or else societies are many times positive while sometimes can be destructive too but this cannot be solved through the slaps and scold. These subcultures are somewhere the reflection of the culture created by the people and which is also highly and strongly abided by them. Then why are they against the creation of their youngsters or their subcultures? This should be cleared that every generation represents the mistakes and is the reflection of the activities done by the people of past. So in that not only teenagers should be scolded instead they should be made to realize how to lead a prosperous life by studying the mistakes of their elders.
